Bob has just left, after spending 2 days with me! He appeared to be cheerful and pleasant. I've already begun to score the ballet, and I've been nailed to my table all day.

When are you thinking of coming here? Where do you want to stay? I think (and Aleksey likewise) that it would be best for you to settle in the rooms where the Legoshins have been staying. They are completely separate, and the view is wonderful.

The woods have been mercilessly hacked around, and it's difficult to express how indignant and infuriated I am.

Since you like to play, and won't be able to play on my piano, then I'm thinking of hiring you a pianino [1] from Moscow. What do you think about this? Or you could acquire an instrument from Schlichting on my account. Is this a possiblity? I hug you! Do reply.

Yours, P. Tchaikvosky

Notes and References

  1. Tchaikovsky uses the Russian word 'pianino' (пианино) here, referring specifically to an upright piano.
