21 August 1889

Golubushka Anya! I'm just writing you a few words. I have to go to bed now, and must rise early in the morning because I'm going to Kamenka for a week. I received your letter today [1] and was most upset to learn of your illness.

I haven't received any letters from you enclosing letters from Lyuba, and so I don't know what you're talking about. Modest will tell you everything from me in detail when he goes to Piter tomorrow, and will no doubt call on you. I kiss your hands.

We'll see each other all the time in Piter anyway, because I'll be staying there a while.
