22 янв[аря 18]91 г[ород] Клин, Моск[овской] губ[ернии] Толя! Как я был глубоко огорчён, что из-за меня и Алексея ты, уезжая, опоздал на курьерский поезд! Пожалуйста, прости! С тех пор, как ты уехал, ничего особенного не произошло. Только морозы, слава Богу, кончились! Сегодня 1 градус всего. Гостят у меня Модест и Ларош. Оба сегодня на один день уехали в Москву. Модест поехал смотреть Савину в своей «Симфонии». Я кончил наконец «Гамлета» и отправил его. Теперь занимаюсь пересмотром и исправлением партитуры «Пиковой дамы». В конце недели еду в Петербург для окончательных переговоров с Дирекцией об опере и балете. Засим я решил, что экономнее и благоразумнее будет не ехать за границу, а остаться здесь месяца два и хорошенько поработать. В апреле же поеду в Америку. Я получил подробные сведения о том, как и что я там буду делать. Дела очень немного; плата хорошая, и упускать очень не хочется такой случай, который уж больше не подвернётся, может быть. С нетерпением жду от тебя известий из Каменки. Как ты их всех там нашёл? Вместе с этим письмом высылаю карточки. Мою милую голубку Паню крепко целую. Проэкзаменуй Тату насчёт нумеров. Кокодесу на днях напишу. Чем более я оттягиваю, тем больше куш, который этот счастливец получит. Обнимаю. П. Чайковский |
Tolya! How deeply upset I was that when you left you were late for the courier train because of me and Aleksey. Please, forgive me! Thus far, nothing in particular has happened since you departed. Except that the frosts, thank God, are over! Today it's all of 1 degree. Modest and Laroche are visiting me. Today they both went to Moscow for the day. Modest went to see Savina in his "Symphony". I finally finished "Hamlet" and sent it off. Now I'm busy revising and correcting the score of "The Queen of Spades". At the end of the week I'm going to Petersburg for the last negotiations with the Directorate about the opera and the ballet. Hence, I've decided that it would be more economical and prudent not to go abroad, but rather to stay here for two months and work decently. I'm going to America in April. I've received detailed information about how and what I'll be doing there. There is very little business; the fee is good, and I very much don't want to miss an opportunity which may not occur again. I'm looking forward to hearing your news from Kamenka. How did you find everyone there? I'm enclosing the pictures together with this letter. I kiss my dear golbushka Panya hard.
