28 April

I have visitors and can't leave. I'm returning "The Voyevoda", and relying completely on Dahlgren [1]. I'll take the "Danish" to Piter and send it from there [2]..

Klenovsky is talented, although a fool. I don't know Ilyinsky a little. He doesn't seem inept either [3].

I embrace you.

P. T.

Notes and References

  1. Jurgenson was publishing the full score of the overture to Tchaikovsky's opera, "The Voyevoda" (1867-68), for the first time. Dahlgren was one of Jurgenson's proofreaders.
  2. Tchaikovsky was revising the full score of his Festival Overture on the Danish National Anthem (1866), which Jurgenson was also publishing for the first time.
  3. Jurgenson's letter enquiring about the composer Nikolay Klenovsky (1857-1915) and the actor Aleksandr Ilyinsky (d. 1905) has not survived.
