14 августа Москва Сейчас только получил от Юргенсона парижские портреты и распорядился, чтобы тебе послали из них четыре. Я так обрадовался, увидав тебя столь хорошо воспроизведённым, что чуть не заплакал при Юргенсоне. Корректуры выгнали из меня всякие чувства и мысли, и нужен был этот случай, чтобы моя любовь к тебе дала себя сильно почувствовать. Приезжал я потому, что прибавилась ещё одна корректура, т. е. заграничное издание «Иоланты». Но Юргенсон забыл прислать мне для проверки нужный матерьял, — и вот пришлось ехать самому. Провёл здесь несколько часов и опять еду в Клин. Если я решусь соединить Венскую поездку с Вербовской, — то это будет в самом конце августа и очень ненадолго, ибо уже 6-го сентября первая репетиция концерта. Господи, до чего мне хочется тебя видеть! Обнимаю. П. Чайковский И вдруг окажется, что «Иоланты» и «Щелкунчик», из-за которых я теперь так много страдаю, — гадость! Если Модя приехал, скажи ему, что я ему написал, впрочем, очень безалаберно и мало, в Гранкино. |
14 August Moscow I've only just received the Paris portraits [1] from Jurgenson, and I've instructed him to send four of them to you. I was so happy to see that your likeness was so good that I nearly cried in front of Jurgenson. All this proofreading has left me numb to all manner of thoughts and feelings, such that I needed this to happen, so that my love for you enabled me to feel strong emotions. I came here because there is one more set of proofs, i.e. a foreign edition of "Iolanta" [2]. But Jurgenson forgot to send me all the materials I needed, and so I had to come for it myself. I've spent a few hours here, and I'm on my way to Klin. Should I decide to journey to Vienna from Verbovka, it will be at the end of August and very briefly, because the first rehearsal for the concert is on 6th September [3]. Lord, how much I want to see you! I hug you. P. Tchaikovsky What if it turns out that "Iolanta" and "The Nutcracker", for which I'm suffering so much, are rubbish? If Modya turns up, tell him that I've written to him, although very little and belatedly, at Grankino. |
