Notes and References

  1. Tchaikovsky was replying to a telegram from Safonov asking when he would be able to attend rehearsals in Moscow for the Russian Musical Society concert on 14/26 February, in which Tchaikovsky was due to conduct his overture-fantasia Hamlet, the Concert Fantasia (soloist Sergey Taneyev), and the suite from the ballet The Nutcracker. Safonov replied the following day: "Rehearsals Friday, Saturday, Sunday morning. Come Thursday morning".
