Notes and References

  1. Dated by Modest Tchaikovsky and the editors of П. И. Чайковский. Полное собрание сочинений, том XVII, on the basis that Tchaikovsky was due to leave Saint Petersburg on 21 October/2 November 1893 to return home to Klin, but was prevented from doing so by the onset of his illness. However, Alexander Poznansky notes that "There are serious reasons to believe that the short note... was actually written in November 1890, not 1893" — see Tchaikovsky's last days. A documentary study (1996), p. 81.
