Dear Sanya!

Yesterday morning I sent you a letter with a detailed explanation of various circumstances, but I fear that, due to an incorrect address, this letter either won't reach you at all, or will arrive too late. And most importantly, I'm worried that the letter I sent to Lev the week before, enclosing the receipt from the insurance company for the piano delivery, will suffer the same fate. I addressed it thus: Fastov railway, to Kamenka station. Meanwhile, Yekaterina Vasilyevna, with whom I had dinner yesterday, tells me that I still need to address it to Smela in the old way. If my two letters, one of which is the insurance letter, have indeed not reached you (which I doubt), then you must go at once to your railway station and demand these letters. And most importantly, for God's sake don't be angry if there's some sort of a delay in receiving the instrument due to an incorrect address.

Tell the Plesskys that I've received the money and the instrument will be sent in a few days. I'll spare you more details about the price, etc. until the instrument is dispatched.

On New Year's Eve, I took in our cousin Misha Assier for the holiday. He'll stay with me until the 6th. This time I can see a few sympathetic aspects to the boy. Unfortunately he can't take anything particularly edifying from his stay with me. It's important for him to spend a few days in a good family home. The thought occurred to me, wouldn't you and Lev let me bring him to yours for the summer? This would be very useful and beneficial for him.

In my incorrecly addressed letter, I told you his mother's address. Just in case I'll write it again: Stavropol Province, city of Stavropol, to the Military School, Treasurer's Apartment, for Olga Grigoryevna Assier.

I kiss you as hard as I can. These last few days remind me of last year. Yesterday was the anniversary of my dinner, and today of Lev's ilness.

Yours P. Tchaikovsky
