Vasily Salin

Russian violinist and teacher (b. 21 June/3 July 1842 in Tsiglerovka, near Poltava; d. 1907 in Kishinev), born Vasily Zakharovich Salin (Василий Захарович Салин).

Salin was a contemporary of Tchaikovsky at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory, where he studied under Henryk Wieniawski. Salin went on to organise and participate in many quartet concerts for the Russian Musical Society. In 1876 he moved to Saratov to teach violin and viola classes, before joining the faculty of the Moscow Conservatory (1885–93).
