Pyotr Shchurovsky
Russian conductor, composer, and music critic (b. 12/24 February 1850 in Zolotoposhsky, near Poltava; d. 14/27 September 1908 in Kursk), born Pyotr Andreyevich Shchurovsky (Пётр Андреевич Щуровский).
After studying piano and music theory at the Moscow Conservatory, Shchurovsky conducted at the Imperial Theatres in Moscow during the 1880s, and organised concerts and lectures on music in the city during the 1880s. He also toured widely both within and outside Russia. During the 1870s he was also the music critic of the Moscow Register (Московские ведомости), in which capacity he corresponded with Tchaikovsky.
