| Ради Бога, простите! Мне казалось, что я обещал обедать у Вас вообще на этой неделе, без обозначение дня. Так как Третьяковы мне чуждые люди, то было бы неловко отменить их обед, и я очень прошу добрейшую Варв[ару] Павл[овну] позволить вместо сегодня обедать у Вас в пятницу. Увижу Вас в консерватории.

For God's sake, forgive me! I had the impression that I had promised to dine with you this week generally, without specifying the day. Since I am not closely acquainted with the Tretyakovs, it would be awkward to cancel my dinner appointment with them, and I beseech most kind Varvara Pavlovna to allow me to dine at your house on Friday instead of today. I shall see you at the Conservatory [1].
