23 November 1892 Saint Petersburg Sir!
It is with the greatest satisfaction that I learn from your letter [1] of my appointment as a member-correspondent of the The Institute of France. Please, I beg you to convey to the Academy my profound gratitude for the distinct honour that I have been granted, and be assured of my most distinguished consideration. P. Tchaikovsky P.S. Following the advice of my very honourable colleague Monsieur Camille Saint-Saëns, I would very much like to have my name written in French as above, without an 's' after the 'T', and with a 'v' instead of 'w' after 'o'. |
