Merci! I'm most grateful to you for kindly agreeing to accept the new movement. You write that the following Marche miniature should be retained. You see, my dear chap. I've been of the opinion for some time now that this miniature march is a miniature turd. Frankly speaking I should like to dispose of this rubbish altogether. Besides which, I consider 6 movements too much. It would be much better if you agreed to act in accordance with my letter from yesterday and dispose of the miniature, so it becomes:
But the fact is that I'm a poor judge of my things until they have been played. It seems that Taneyev is familiar with the suite. I'll rely entirely on his judgement. Please send him a note and ask him to give his opinion frankly. If he, hand on heart, says it's a pity to dispense with the miniature, then let it be in 6 movements. If not, then that's it! I'll bear the expense myself (don't be magnanimous) — this will be fair. In the event that Taneyev would have you keep the turd, then the order of the movements is as follows:
I'll be seeing you quite soon. I would ask you to write to the address I gave yesterday just once more. I'll be setting off there in a few days. Yours, P. Tchaikovsky (producer of the turd) |
