26 May Golubushka Sofya Ivanovna! Yesterday Nikolay Langer approached me with the following request. On behalf of Pyotr Ivanovich he has copied out my opera (full score). On Monday it will be ready for delivery to you. Langer says that Pyotr Ivanovich promised him 125 rubles, but in view of the difficult and urgency of the work he wishes to receive 150 rubles. I don't know whether you can resolve this matter yourself — but in any case I will ask you to fulfil his request, i.e. to pay 150 rubles; then we will see whether Pyotr Ivanovich will take the additional 25 rubles from my account. Neither on Friday nor yesterday could I arrange vint with you; today I'm seeing the Huberts, and perhaps we can arrange vint at yours on one of the ensuing three days. I shall let you know the day and time of the onslaught. I kiss your hands. Yours P. Tchaikovsky I couldn't come to you myself today. I am sorry for how grubby this writing paper is. |
