Fernow was the co-owner of the agency Konzert-Direktion Hermann Wolff, founded in 1880 by Hermann Wolff. Following Wolff's death in 1902, Fernow took over the management of the company.

Tchaikovsky corresponded with Fernow ("Monsieur de Fernov") in 1890 in connection with arrangements for his forthcoming visit to the United States in April/May 1891, which was being organised by Wolff's agency.
