Good and dear friend Eduard Frantsovich!

I should very much like to know (even approximately) when the production is taking place, because I certainly want to be at the first performance. I need to know this now in order to determine the most convenient time for me to visit Petersburg, so that on the same visit I can both attend to business and see the 1st performance of your opera.

I know that you must now be terribly busy with rehearsals, but all the same I ask you to send me a word or two in reply.

I embrace you, my dear friend.

Yours P. Tchaikovsky
