16 May.

Most gracious Vasily Vasilyevich!

I'm writing you this letter to tell you of Klindworth's formal request to send him two copies of his arrangement of "Romeo and Juliet". He's leaving on the 23rd and wanted to have it before his departure. I'm making the piano arrangement of the first movement of the symphony [1], which I'll be sending to you shortly, together with a detailed letter regarding our affairs. Until the next letter [2].

Yours P. Tchaikovsky

Yesterday the Grand Duke spent the whole day with us, and he left very pleased with everything, including my symphony [3].
