Dear friend!

It turns out that I have quinsy and an abscess of the mouth, which has now been operated on. Because of this I will probably require a further 2 or 3 days' sitting around [1]. Since I am very bored, might I request the Director (if he is free), the Inspector [2], and Professors Kashkin, Hubert and Zverev to visit me in the evening? I beg you to ask all these gentlemen to honour me with their attendance.

Yours, P. Tchaikovsky

Could you let me know these gentleman's replies, because I have to prepare dinner?

Notes and References

  1. Dated in relation to Letter 319 and Letter 320.
  2. The Director of the Moscow Conservatory was Nikolay Rubinstein himself, and the Inspector was Karl Albrecht.
