Gracious friend
Vasily Vasilyevich! I'm extremely grateful to you for both your letters, and I'm heartily glad that our opera is going on. Regarding the role of Morozova, I wanted to tell you about the following consideration. Couldn't you invite Kadmina there for this role, who could be an excellent performer? She is a wonderful actress and a most sympathetic singer. In any case, Krutikova must be avoided. Besides, I have another big favour to ask of you. I am presently affected by a tragic catastrophe that has befallen a person close to me, and my nerves are awfully upset. I am in no condition to do anything. Therefore I ask you not to hurry me with the piano pieces. You shall surely have them, but I cannot guarantee that this will be in the near future. Just wait for two or three weeks. Farewell, thank you for all your troubles. Yours P. Tchaikovsky Write when the symphony will be on. |
