Прелестная и характерная звучность этого инструмента значительно украсит нашу оркестровку, и я впредь намерен непременно пользоваться им, чтобы обогатить оркестр. | It is with keen interest and a complete pleasure that I congratulate you on your invention — the Clarinette-pedale [1]. The charming and distinctive sonority of the instrument significantly complements our orchestration, and it is my firm intention to further use it to enrich the orchestra. |

- ↑ This instrument, also known as the pedal clarinet, or contrabass clarinet, was first produced by Fontaine-Besson in Paris in 1889. In May 1892 the company launched a successful marketing campaign for the instrument, championed by Charles Gounod, and sought endorsements from other leading composers (such as this telegram from Tchaikovsky) which were published in the firm's advertisements.
