Прелестная и характерная звучность этого инструмента значительно украсит нашу оркестровку, и я впредь намерен непременно пользоваться им, чтобы обогатить оркестр. It is with keen interest and a complete pleasure that I congratulate you on your invention — the Clarinette-pedale [1]. The charming and distinctive sonority of the instrument significantly complements our orchestration, and it is my firm intention to further use it to enrich the orchestra.

  1. This instrument, also known as the pedal clarinet, or contrabass clarinet, was first produced by Fontaine-Besson in Paris in 1889. In May 1892 the company launched a successful marketing campaign for the instrument, championed by Charles Gounod, and sought endorsements from other leading composers (such as this telegram from Tchaikovsky) which were published in the firm's advertisements.
