Wiesbaden is a city in south-west Germany, and the capital of the state of Hesse (Hessen).
During Tchaikovsky's lifetime it was part of the Rhine Province of the Kingdom of Prussia, becoming part of the German Empire in 1871.

Tchaikovsky paid a short visit to Wiesbaden in late June/early July 1870, to see his friend Nikolay Rubinstein who was on holiday in the city [1].
