Alfred Hipkins

English musicologist (b. 17 June 1826 [N.S.] in London; d. 3 June 1903 [N.S.] in London), born Alfred James Hipkins.
A specialist in keyboard instruments, Hipkins originally trained as a piano tuner, but went on to write specialist studies of equal temperament and acoustics. He also contributed more general music articles to George Grove's encyclopaedia, and the Encyclopaedia Britannica.
