Каменка 22 апр[еля] Merci, душа моя, за исполнение моих назойливых просьб. Относительно пианино — я не решаюсь ни на Блютнера, ни на другого. Инструмент нужен мне самому, но так как настоятельной необходимости нет пока, — то я решился подождать, ибо вдруг стало жаль денег. Так как все лето я буду занят инструментовкой оперы, то в инструменте нуждаться не буду, да и некогда будет много играть. Откладываю покупку до осени. Тебя же от всей души благодарю и прошу извинения за то, что побеспокоил напрасно. Относительно желания Кашкина и Танеева скажу тебе, что не следует пренебрегать их предложением. (Между нами: я лучше бы желал, чтоб все сделал Танеев, ибо он большой дока по части ф[орте]п[иано] и вообще на него можно, как на каменную гору, положиться.) Что касается того, что оба сии мои друга работают тихо, то это ничего, ибо ведь спешить особенно нечего. Пожалуйста, дружище, если возможно, устрой, чтоб можно было в будущем сезоне исполнять мою сюиту. Полагаю, что лучше всего была бы, если бы репетиции того концерта М[узыкального] О[бщества], на котором Ник[олай] Гр[игорьевич] её исполнит, послужили бы 3-ей корректурой для голосов и для партитуры. Я начинаю ужасно гордиться сим своим творением, ибо вижу, как здесь некоторые части оного сильно нравятся. Все мои сожители сходят с ума от Andante, а с одной девицей, после того как мы с братом в 4 руки сыграли andante, сделалась истерика (factisch!!!). Доводить прекрасный пол до истерики — ведь это верх авторского торжества!!! Ты пишешь, что Стасов сидит. Какой? Владимир или Дмитрий? До свиданья, голубчик. Бесконечно благодарен за исполнение всех просьб моих. Твой П. Чайковский

Kamenka 22 April Merci, my dear chap, for carrying out my importunate requests. As for the piano, I haven't decided if it should be a Blüthner or something else. I need an instrument for myself, but since it's not of urgent necessity now, I've decided to wait, because I'm suddenly regretting the cost. Since I'll be occupied with scoring the opera all summer, then I won't have need of an instrument, and I won't have time to play much. So I'm deferring the purchase until the autumn. I thank you with all my heart, and ask you to forgive me for troubling you unnecessarily. Regarding Kashkin's and Taneyev's wishes, I say that you shouldn't automatically disregard their suggestion. (Between us: I should prefer that Taneyev did it all, for he's a great dab hand at the piano, and in general he's as reliable as solid rock.) As for the fact that these friends of mine are both quietly working away, then that's fine, because there's no particular hurry. Please, dear chap, if possible see to it that my suite can be performed next season. I dare say it would be best if the rehearsals for the Musical Society where Nikolay Grigoryevich is performing it would serve as the 3rd proofreading both for the parts and for the score. I'm beginning to be awfully proud of this creation, because I see how some of its movements will be very well received. Everyone I'm living with is mad for the Andante, and after my brother and I played the Andante in 4 hands, one girl became hysterical (factisch!!!). Bringing the fairer sex to hysteria is the pinnacle of an author's triumph!!! You write that Stasov is in prison. Which one? Vladimir or Dmitry? Until we meet, golubchik.
