Каменка 17-го мая 1881 г[ода] Милостивый государь!
Я получил от Э. Ф. Направника письмо, в коем он извещает меня, что Дирекция Национального театра в Праге, имея ввиду поставить на своей сцене оперу мою «Орлеанская дева», спрашивает согласия моего на эту постановку. Спешу Вас уведомить, милостивый государь, что я почту для себя величайшей честью и величайшим счастьем, если опера моя удостоится постановки на национальной сцене чешской столицы. Произведение моё посвящена моему высокоуважаемому другу Э. Ф. Направнику, и я надеюсь, что имя этого художника, одинаково дорогое и чешской и русской национальностям, не только украсило издание моей оперы, но и послужит ей залогом счастливого успеха в пражской публике, сочувствием которой я дорожу невыразимо. Gracious Sir!
I have received a letter from E. F Nápravník, in which he informs me that the Directorate of the National Theatre in Prague are considering staging my "Maid of Orleans", and requesting my consent to this production. I hasten to notify you, gracious Sir, that it would afford me the greatest honour and the greatest happiness, if my opera was to be honoured with a production on the national stage of the Czech capital. My work is dedicated to my highly-respected friend E. F Nápravník, and I hope that the name of this artist, who is equally dear to the Czech and Russian nationalities, will not only grace the edition of my opera, but it will serve as a guarantee of her propitious success to the Prague audience, whose sympathy is inexpressibly dear to me.
