Гранкино 22 июня Толичка! Тихая и приятная здешняя жизнь идёт так однообразно, что решительно нет материалу для писания. Скажу про себя лишь, что мне здесь очень хорошо. Модя решился в скором времени покинуть Гранкино и ехать в Петербург. Он хотел вместе со мной отправиться сначала в Каменку, чтобы Pом[ан] Еф[имович] сделал ему операцию, в которой он нуждается, но теперь из письма Левы вижу, что Ром[ан] Еф[имович] уехал и Бог знает когда вернётся, так что операцию (впрочем самую пустяшную) сделает здешний уездный доктор. Так как Модеста решительно нельзя будет оставить в Петербурге одного, ибо он так страстно относится к своим делам с Алиной и опекунами, что может наделать много глупостей, и так как, с другой стороны, мне хочется повидаться с тобой, Алёшей и Петром Иван[овичем], то я решился ехать вместе с ними. Мы остановимся у Петра Иван[овича] и останемся дня 2 или 3; потом я свезу Модеста в Питер и, когда его положение разъяснится, возвращусь в Москву и погощу у тебя. Не могу определительно назначить время, когда мы приедем, но думаю, что это будет около 10-то июля. Есть несколько причин, по которым пребывание в Гранкине было для меня не только приятно, но и полезно. 1) Здесь отличное купанье, и я им пользуюсь с очевидным благотворным влиянием на здоровье, и 2) здесь мне отлично заниматься, и я порядочно поработал. Из Каменки имею от Наты такие подробности про Таню и вообще про все, что очень рад, что меня там пока нет. Главное, меня возмущает там присутствие Блуменфельда. Теперь Саша с Натой уже в Карлсбаде. Что то давно от тебя нет известий; надеюсь, что завтрашняя почта привезёт. Скоро увидимся, милый Анатоша. А пока обнимаю письменно. Поцелуй за меня ручку Параши, и обоим Владимиром поклон. Лёнька пишет, что был у тебя и рад ужасно был тебя видеть. Целую.

Grankino 22 June Tolichka! The quiet and pleasant life here goes on so monotonously that there's decidedly no material to write about. I can only say about myself that it is very good for me here. Modya has decided to leave Grankino soon and to go to Petersburg. Initially he wanted to set off with me for Kamenka, so that Roman Yefimovich could perform the operation he needs, but now from Lyova's letter I see that Roman Yefimovich has left, and God knows when he'll be back, so the operation (albeit a most trivial one) will be performed by the local doctor for the district. Since Modest absolutely cannot be left alone in Petersburg, because he is so passionate about his affairs with Alina and the guardians that he could do many stupid things, and since, on the other hand, I want to see you, Alyosha and Pyotr Ivanovich, then I've decided to go with him. We'll stay with Pyotr Ivanovich and stop there for 2 or 3 days; then I'll take Modest to Piter, and once his situation is clarified, I'll return to Moscow and stay with you. I can't set a firm time for our arrival, but I think that it will be around 10th July. There are a few reasons why my stay in Grankino was not only pleasant, but also useful. 1) The bathing here is splendid, and I'm using it with obvious beneficial effects on my health, and 2) it's a splendid place for me to work, and I've done a decent amount. I've had such details from Nata in Kamenka about Tanya and everything in general, that I'm very glad not to be there now. The main thing is that I'm outraged at Blumenfeld's presence there. Sasha and Nata are already in Carlsbad now. I haven't had news from you in ages; I hope that tomorrow's post will bring some. See you soon, dear Anatosha. Meanwhile, I hug you by letter.
