Киев 4-го сентября Милый Модичка! Ехал я очень благополучно и приятно. Немножко грустил о всех вас. Когда я шёл с тобой и Колей на станцию, то живо чувствовал, что самая нормальная моя компания — твоя и Колина; я, так сказать, чувствую себя дома с Вами. Интересно знать, будем ли жить вместе, когда Коля сделается самостоятелен, или отстранится от нас. А я бы хотел, ибо в самом деле и люблю и привык к нашему совместному жительству. Под Курском проснулся, стал ходить по вагону и вдруг в общем отделении вижу Лелю, Сашу Ж[едринскогo] и Ж. Карцова. Они ехали из Рыбницы к Стремоуховым. Проболтали до Льгова. В Киеве всё переполнено, насилу достал дрянную комнатку в Grand-Hôtel. Сейчас иду в Братский монастырь к обедне. Целую, обнимаю. П. Чайковский

Kiev 4th September Dear Modichka! I have been travelling very safely and pleasantly. I was rather sad about all of you. When I walked with you and Kolya to the station, I felt so keenly that my most normal company is yours and Kolina's; that I, so to speak, feel at home with you. It will be interesting to know if we'll live together when Kolya becomes independent, or moves away from us. I should like this, because I am really fond and accustomed to our living together. Near Kursk I awoke, started walking around the carriage, and suddenly in the general compartment I saw Lyolya, Sasha Zhedrinsky and Zh. Kartsov. They were travelling from Rybnitsa to the Stremoukhovs. We chatted as far as Lgov. Everywhere in Kiev is packed, it was an effort just to find a lousy room in the Grand-Hôtel.
