Давос 17/29 ноября 1884 Милый Юргенсон! Ты знаешь, что государь весьма поощрял меня писать для церкви. В Петербурге я узнал, что он очень удивлён, почему я до сих пор ничего не написал. Вследствие сего я сочинил три херувимские песни и послал их к Балакиреву в Капеллу. Впоследствии я напишу ещё несколько нумеров из обедни, и, если хочешь, напечатаем все это, а покамест распорядись чтобы сняли, них копии. Я оттого послал прямо в капеллу, что нужно поскорее. Вероятно, в одно время, получением этого письма или вскоре после него ты получишь от меня из Парижа, куда и еду завтра, телеграмму о деньгах. Мне их нужно будет много. Если у те6я в кассе нет, то распорядись чтобы добрейший Осип Иванович, получил поспектакльную плату за 8 представлений «Онегина» и 4 «Мазепы», а сам возьми следующую мне плату в Москве. Всего наберётся порядочно. Напомни мне, когда увидимся, чтобы я поговорил с тобой об одном очень важном для меня деле, в котором я (как ни старался) не могу обойтись без чьих-нибудь советов и нравственной помощи. Ты можешь оказать мне огромную услугу. Я уж давно хотел говорить с тобой, да не решался; тут есть неприятная для разоблачения тайна, касающаяся близкого лица. Обнимаю. П. Davos 17/29 November 1884 Dear Jurgenson! You are aware that the Sovereign has strongly encouraged me to write for the church. In Petersburg I learned that he was very surprised that I still hadn't written anything. Consequently, I wrote three Cherubic songs and send them to Balakirev at the Capella. Subsequently I'll write a few more numbers from the liturgy, and if you want to print all of this, then make arrangements for them to be taken out and have copies made in the meantime. I had to send them directly to the Capella as soon as possible. You will probably, around the time of receiving this letter or soon afterwards, receive a telegram from me about money from Paris, where I'm going tomorrow. I will need a lot of it. If you don't have it in the safe, then make arrangements for most kind Osip Ivanovich to receive the performance fees for 8 productions of "Onegin" and 4 of "Mazepa", and take my next fee from Moscow yourself. It will all be properly accounted for. When I see you, remind me to discuss one very important matter with you, which (not for want of trying) I cannot manage without someone's advice and guidance. You would be doing me an enormous service. I have wanted to talk to you about it for ages, but I didn't dare; it involves revealing an unpleasant secret concerning a person close to me.
