Москва 18 дек[абря], вечером Модичка! Толя весьма не советует идти к Федотовой, ибо она не так, как следует, отнеслась к сделанной ей нами чести. Идти ли к Ермоловой? Или ждать тебя? Дай знать тем временем, будешь ли и когда будешь? Я бы тебе весьма советовал проехаться сюда. В четверг я приглашён утром на репетицию, чтобы слышать каких-то дебютирующих певиц, я буду иметь случай говорить с Пчельниковым (здешним главою театров) о «Лизав[ете] Ник[олаевне]», а также в пятницу я буду вечером у этого Пчельникова играть в винт, и, конечно, не пропущу случая поговорить о пиэсе. Но, кроме того, я буду у Ермоловой, если ты это найдёшь нужным. Чувствую, что статья Суворина тебя огорчила, ибо и меня она ужасно огорчила, и сегодня весь день я думал о тебе. Знаю, что всё это ничего не значит и что ты своё рано или поздно возьмёшь, но очень понимаю, как возмутительна подобная несправедливость и как это на тебя подействовало. Ах, что это за мерзость, всё эти газеты!!!! Приезжай, голубчик! Целую и обнимаю тысячу раз. Твой П. Чайковский

Moscow 18 December, evening Modichka! Tolya strongly advises against going to Fedotova, because she didn't properly appreciate the honour we did her. Shall I go to Yermolova? Or wait or you? Let me know in the meantime if and when you'll be there? I strongly recommend that you come here. On Thursday morning I've been invited to a rehearsal to hear the debuts of some singers, where I'll have the opportunity to talk with Pchelnikov (the head of the theatres here) about "Lizaveta Nikolayevna", and also on Friday I'll be playing vint at this Pchelnikov's in the evening, and of course, I won't miss the opportunity to talk about the play. But, besides that, I'll be with Yermolova if you find it necessary. I feel that Suvorin's article has upset you, because it has upset me terribly, and I've been thinking about you all day today. I know that all this means nothing and that sooner or later you'll have your dues, but I understand very well how outrageous such injustice is and how it has affected you.
