Dear, good friend!

Forgive me for taking so long to reply to you about "Vostok". It turns out that Erdmannsdörfer has either sinned against the truth in responding that he does not know where "Vostok" is, or he's forgotten. The files say that "Vostok" was here, and that he now has it. He told Albrecht that he wants to review "Vostok" again. I haven't seen Erdmannsdörfer myself yet.

All week here I've had daily rehearsals; I'm so tired afterwards that I can't go anywhere and I hide from people. The opera's going well enough; I can't speak highly enough of the sympathy shown towards me by all the artists, the orchestra, and the chorus, but the disorderliness of the theatre administration here is unimaginable, and that's the reason for all the delays.

I shall make one more attempt to ask you and the most sympathetic Olga Eduardovna to come for the first performance. How glad I should be to receive a telegram from you about seating. I'll make reservations in any case.

I embrace you,

Yours P. Tchaikovsky
