Dear Volodya

Over the coming days I have Monday free [1]. I don't know whether you want to have dinner together at 6 o'clock at the "Hermitage" or at the "Saratov" [2]. I hope to have the opportunity to run into you before then.

I embrace you.

P. Tchaikovsky

The box is reserved [3].

Notes and References

  1. Tchaikovsky appears to be replying to a letter from Vladimir Shilovsky which has not survived.
  2. The Hermitage and Saratov were both restaurants in Moscow.
  3. Tchaikovsky was probably referring to the second performance of the opera Cherevichki, on 23 January/4 February 1887.
