Maydanovo village

My dear Panichka!

Today I returned to Maydanovo. I'm excessively happy and content that I can draw breath away from the whole mass and variety of impressions that I experienced in Moscow. After my last letter, I conducted twice more. Each time before the start I was frantically and terribly afraid; starting from half way through the overture, the fear passed and thereafter I conducted with great self-assurance. The second time was more difficult for me, because I was strongly affected by the news of Tanya's tragic end, and therefore very nervous.

You probably already know about another sad catastrophe — the death of poor Vanya Tretyakov. I can't think about him without a painful twinge in my heart. We held a memorial service for Tanya, to which all our Moscow relatives were invited, i.e. the Genkes, Kartsovs, etc. Lev is in Petersburg. They say that the scene when he arrived and entered the room with the coffin was heartrending. The news about Sasha is quite reassuring. If only they have the strength to endure the grief, then we could actually rather celebrate poor Tanya. What a life she had ahead of her!!!

I've been invited to Petersburg to conduct a grand concert, consisting only of my compositions. I'm inclined to accept the offer. God, how I want to see you as soon as possible, my dears. It seems to me that I could make it to Tiflis sooner than you think. I kiss and hug you a thousand times.
