17 сент[ября] Милый Анатоша! Получил сегодня твой ответ на мою просьбу об деньгах. Очень обрадовался в первую минуту, но потом, вдруг мне стало стыдно и неловко. Во всяком случае я не в состоянии пойти к Влад[имиру] Дм[итриевичу] и говорить о деньгах. Дождусь Вашего приезда. Я было уж написал письмо Влад[имиру] Дм[итриевичу], но потом разорвал. Будь что будет! А пока Юргенсон хлопочет о моем деле вместе с одним специалистом и стараются заставить Новикову уступить. Дело в полном ходу, а у меня денег ни копейки. Забавно! Репетиции оперы начнутся 26-го числа этого месяца, а 1-е представление состоится не раньше конца октября. Я еду на будущей неделе. Теперь очень занят некоторыми переделками в «Чародейке». У меня гостит Ларош, и полдня я посвящаю его статье. Скоро увидимся. Целую, обнимаю тебя, Паничку и Тату. П. Чайковский Дай бог, чтобы все благополучно у тебя сошло. |
17 September Dear Anatosha! Today I received your reply to my request for money [1]. At first I rejoiced, but a minute later I suddenly became ashamed and embarrassed. In any case I'm not able to go to Vladimir Dmitryevich [2] and talk about money. I'll await your arrival. I was already writing a letter to Vladimir Dmitryevich, but then tore it up. What will be will be! And in the meantime Jurgenson is securing expert assistance on my behalf in an attempt to force Novikova to give in [3]. The case is in full swing, but I don't have a single kopek. How farcical! Rehearsals for the opera [4] will start on the 26th of this month, and the first production won't take place before the end of October. I'm going next week. At the moment I'm very busy with some alterations to "The Enchantress". I have Laroche as a guest, and I'm devoting half my days to his article [5] . See you soon.
