Forgive me, the full score is still required [1]. Don't worry about Kiev; whatever happens I won't allow "The Enchantress" to be put on in Tiflis or in Kiev unless it's in the definitive version. I've decided the full score should be published in lithograph, like "Harold" [2].

We'll mull all this over when you arrive.

Yours P. Tchaikovsky

Notes and References

  1. Tchaikovsky was replying to a letter from Pyotr Jurgenson dated 8/20 October 1887, in which the publisher asked for the return of the manuscript full score of the opera The Enchantress in order that orchestral parts could be prepared for the Kiev Opera.
  2. Eduard Nápravník's opera Harold (1884-85), which ultimately was not published by Jurgenson's firm until 1901, and then by standard methods, rather than lithography.
