Cher et très respecte
Monsieur Blavet!

Р. Tschaïkowsky

Dear and most respected
Monsieur Blavet!

I am leaving Paris this morning, and have paused to send you these few lines in order to prevent you from thinking that I am ungrateful. I know how much I am indebted to you for the unforgettable evening at "Figaro" [1]; I fear that the card, which I went to bring you the next morning, may have gone astray [2] (because at that moment everyone at the Hôtel du Figaro was engaged in putting the room in order) and it is absolutely essential that I tell you before the moment of my departure for London that my gratitude to you is most vibrant, warm and deep.

I beg you to please accept the enclosed photograph [3] and be assured of the best regards of your most devoted,

P. Tchaikovsky
