Желание Ваше исполнено, но, сознаюсь, лишь сегодня!!! Вы отлично сделали, что напомнили мне о данном Вам обещании: я становлюсь в последнее время рассеян до чудовищности. Но если я провинился перед Вами относительно времени отправки письма, то зато не пожалел самых сильных красок, чтобы характеризировать симпатичный талант Ваш, и директор Пражского театра г. Шуберт будет глупцом, если не последует моему совету пригласить Вас. Очень буду рад, если дело это устроится. Вчера меня посетил один старинный друг мой, провинциал и сообщил, что исполнение партии Татьяны в последнем представлении «Онегина» в Москве было великолепно. На будущей неделе Татьяну в Петербурге будет петь Медея Мей. Преинтересно! Засим, целуя Ваши ручки и прося Вас поклониться Сергею Андреевичу, остаюсь преданный Вам П. Чайковский |
13/25 January 1889 Dear Mariya Nikolayevna!
Your wish has been fulfilled, but, I confess, only today!!![1] You did splendidly to remind me of the promise I made to you: lately I've become horrendously absent-minded. But if you find me at fault for the timing of my sending the letter, then I have no regrets about characterising your talents in the most colourful terms, and the director of the Prague Theatre Mr Šubert would be a fool if he did not heed my advice to invite you. I shall be very glad to put the matter to rest. Yesterday I was visited by an old friend of mine from the provinces, who told me that the performer of the role of Tatyana in the latest Moscow production of "Onegin" was magnificent [2]. Next week, Medeya Mey will be singing Tatyana in Petersburg [3]. Most interesting! Whereupon, kissing your hands and asking you to bow to Sergey Andreyevich [4], I remain your devoted P. Tchaikovsky |
