6 Avril 1891 Mon cher ami!
6 April 1891 My dear friend!
Please excuse me for replying so late [1]. I've been in a muddle! I received your delightful Polonaise and thank you for the dedication [2]; I am infinitely touched! You asked me to make corrections as necessary. Do not be so modest! You are a consummate musician and there can be nothing to correct in your works. Your transcriptions are at home, in the country. Jurgenson having greatly procrastinated in the publication of these pieces, I have taken them back and am holding onto them [3]. I can always return them, unless you entrust me with giving them to Jurgenson with a renewed expression of my desire to have them published. But I shall be unable to do that until after my return home in the month of June. "Hamlet" has come out, but only the overture [4]. I am leaving for America in a few days. Thank you again for your flattering attention. Yours, P. Tchaikovsky |
