Modya! I've just received your letter from the 26th [1]. How did you infer that I'd cooled towards "Iolanta"? It's precisely because I'm in love with her more than ever that I've postponed her until next year. I want to and can make a chef d'oeuvre from her, but I must not rush this. Just think about how on earth I could have found the time to do this properly??? The creative impulse would have been too weak, and this would have resulted in hasty and mediocre work.

I'm just off to Niagara. No time to write.

Kiss, hugs,

P. Tchaikovsky
