2-го сентября 1891 г[ода] Голубушка Аня! Я только что вернулся из своей поездки. Провёл несколько дней у брата Коли весьма приятно. Потом прожил около недели в Каменке. Там очень живо чувствуется понесённая нами утрата, но все здоровы и все благополучно. Модест прочёл мне свою новую пиэсу; она очень живо и талантливо написана. За сим провёл 2 очень суетливых дня в Москве. Мы съехались там с Ларошами. Они из Мариенбада проехали в Пешт, оттуда пароходом в Галац, Одессу и через Киев в Москву. Послезавтра они приедут ко мне, Кату водворит своего толстяка, а затем поедет к себе в Екатеринославскую губ[ернию]. Я видел её в Москве мельком и не успел поговорить о деле Пётра Ивановича. Но здесь мы поговорили, и я заставлю её сделать все что можно. Аня, не нужно ли тебе денег? Если да, то воспользуйся прилагаемой записочкой. У меня к тебе огромная просьба. Съезди, голубушка, если можно, по прилагаемому объявлению из «Нового времени». Что-то очень соблазнительно. 4000 я бы мог достать без особенного труда. Положение ваше прескверное. Но я надеюсь, что ты не упадёшь духом; нужно ждать, а что будет место — в этом я уверен. А пока я буду очень рад помочь тебе перебиться. Вор, укравший часы, нашёлся, но вот уже две недели от него не могут добиться, чтобы он указал, где часы. Это мальчик, бывший в услужении у Новиковой. До свидания! Целую ручки!

2nd September 1891 Golubushka Anya! I'm just back from my trip. I spent a very pleasant few days with brother Kolya. Then I went to Kamenka for a week or so. The loss we have endured is very keenly felt there, but everyone is healthy and all is well. Modest read his new play to me; it's very lively and expertly written. After that I spent 2 very hectic days in Moscow. I met the Laroches there. They went from Marienbad to Pest, from there by ship to Galati and Odessa, and via Kiev to Moscow. The day after tomorrow they are coming to me, Katu will see her fat man settled in, and then she herself will be going to Yekaterinoslav province. I saw her in Moscow briefly, and did not manage to talk about Pyotr Ivanovich's case. But I've discussed it here, and I shall make her do everything possible. Anya, do you need money? If so, then make use of the enclosed note. I have an enormous favour to ask of you. If you can, golubushka, follow the enclosed notice from "New Time". This thing is very tempting.
