It's difficult to say when I can get to Moscow, and because of this please don't hesitate. Most probably I'll come at the end of Shrovetide. By then you will surely be back. I'm pleased to learn that Taneyev has sent the beginning of "Iolanta" [1]. Whom did you have copy out the lyrics and text? I hope there won't be any delay. I've received the new edition of the 3rd suite. I'm very pleased with it. Now I'm imagining a re-issue of "Francesca da Rimini" [...] [2]. When all my best things have been published as well as the 3rd suite is now, I can die content.

The edition of the 1st quartet is abominable. For many years I've been dreaming about new parts. I recall that Rahter asked Auer to carefully review this quartet and to insert bowing marks, and Auer did so. What became of all this? While I was in Germany I was forever hearing complaints about the fact that these parts are impossible to play. If not the whole quartet, then at least the Andante is played quite often. And even so it has terrible errors in the parts. What a pity that the Celesta cannot easily be reconstructed![3]

And so, until we meet!

P. Tchaikovsky
