My dear and most respected Director!

You will certainly not have forgotten that during my last visit to Prague [1], we discussed between us the engagement of the couple Figner [2] for a series of performances at the Divadlo [3]. I have spoken to Figner, who has instructed me to tell you that he could not be happier than to appear on your stage during Lent, which commences here from 7/19 February and lasts for 7 weeks. Regarding the amounts he receives for each performance along with his wife, he says that he would first like to know what revenue you are expecting, taking into account higher ticket prices? On this basis he will be able to calculate the amount he might request of you, so that it will not appear over-inflated. Therefore please, dear Sir and friend, write a word of information on this subject to Monsieur Nikolay Figner, Mariinsky Imperial Theatre. I should very much like this matter to be settled, because I have no doubt that the Prague public will appreciate the great qualities of these two artists.

I am resting abroad from the exhaustion of the staging of Iolanta. This opera was received with great success.

A thousand salutations for the year 1893!!! Cordial greetings to all our mutual friends.

Yours ever,

P. Tchaikovsky
