22 September

Golubchik Aunt Sonya!

Forgive me for not accompanying you to the Trinity [1], much as I would have wished. I received a letter from Modest, asking me to attend the Maly Theatre today and report on how Prejudices [2] goes with the cuts he has made. Tomorrow I shall finally be going home.

I kiss your hands.

P. Tchaikovsky

Give Osip Ivanovich and his young ladies my sincerest regrets that I won't be with you.
