Nocturne in B major

Tchaikovsky Research

A pencil note of a theme in B major (7 bars), entitled "Nocturn, H-dur" [sic], is found in volume 17 of Tchaikovsky's edition of the complete works of Mozart, together with themes for ten of the Eighteen Pieces, Op. 72. The Nocturne (TH 239; ČW 477) was probably conceived as part of that piano cycle, but not subsequently used.

It is impossible to ascertain exactly when these sketches were made, but it could have been no earlier than the winter of 1891/92, and no later than April 1893 [1].
