I've learned that Boguslav [2] is leaving the kapellmeister position at the Maly Theatre. For God's sake keep A. F. Arends in mind for this position. He would be highly suitable for this [3]. I am on my way to Hamburg and barely have time to write you these lines.

  1. Tchaikovsky only spent the night of 4/16 to 5/17 January 1892 in Berlin, on his way from Warsaw to Hamburg.
  2. Florentin Vyacheslavovich Boguslav (Bohuslav) (1848-1915), principal conductor of the Maly Theatre orchestra in Moscow.
  3. Andrey Arends was appointed chief conductor at the Maly Theatre in November 1892, after being selected in a competition in which Tchaikovsky was one of the judges. See also Letter 4674 and Letter 4774.
