20 February

Modya! P. I. Jurgenson has received credit (in lieu of money) for "The Queen of Spades" in Moscow (excepting the last four or five performances). By calculation you are due 842 rubles for now. Pyotr Ivanovich has ordered Osip Ivanovich to pay you, together with the Petersburg royalties. But from Osip Ivanovich's letter [1] you will see that he won't receive the money before the end of this week. So you should go to see him on Saturday or the following Monday. I think you are still due another 200 rubles from Moscow.

I have only just returned from Moscow with Volodya, where we spent 5 whole days [2]. Volodya liked Moscow very much. We got terribly drunk. At Shrovetide in Moscow we went 3 times to "The Queen" and twice to "Onegin". How about that? I must get to work. See you in ten days.

P. T.

I should awfully like to stop with you.
