14 августа Москва Модя, милый мой, прости, что страшно давно не писал. Где ты? Вероятно, тебя уже в Гранкине нет. Пишу эти несколько слов на всякий случай, чтобы сказать, что моя сумасшедшая корректурная работа отнимает у меня все мысли, чувства, память, — я просто сделался какой-то корректурной машиной. Если ты ещё в Гранкине и в Каменку не поедешь, то знай, что меня ты здесь, т. е. в этих странах, застанешь только приблизительно до 25 числа. Затем я еду в Вену. Меня так убедительно приглашает Выставочный комитет, что я решил ехать, и ещё Бог знает, поеду ли через Каменку. Если корректуры задержат, то придётся прямо в Вену ехать. Если ты в Москве остановишься, то можешь получить 200 р[ублей] у Петра Ивановича, если же нет, то получи у Осипа Ивановича, которому П[ётр] И[ванович] перешлёт. А пенсию, которую я думал получить в начале сентября, придётся отложить до возвращения из Вены. Прости, что пока не даю тебе больше, — я издержал все, что у меня было, а теперь придётся ждать поспектакльную. Чувствую, что пишу бестолковщину, — но у меня ум за разум заходит. Я в Москве (по корректурному делу) и сейчас еду назад. Приезжай, чтобы распутать юргенсоновскую путаницу. Обнимаю! П. Чайковский |
14 August Moscow Modya, my dear, forgive me for not having written in a terribly long while. Where are you? You're probably not still at Grankino [1]. I'm writing these few words in any case, just to say that my frantic proof work has robbed me of all my thoughts, feelings and memories: I've just become some sort of proof-correcting machine [2]. If you aren't still at Grankino, and aren't going to Kamenka, then you need to know that I can only be found here, i.e. in this country, until around the 25th of the month. Then I'm going to Vienna. I had such a persuasive invitation from the Exhibition committee that I decided to go [3], and God only knows if I'll make it to Kamenka. If the proofs delay me, then I'll have to go straight to Vienna. If you're stopping in Moscow then you can collect 200 rubles from Pyotr Ivanovich, otherwise collect them from Osip Ivanovich, to whom Pyotr Ivanovich will forward them. The pension, which I think is due in early September, will have to be postponed until I return from Vienna. I'm sorry that I haven't any more to give you: I spent everything I had, and now have to wait for the performance fees. I sense that my writing is muddled, but I'm going out of my mind.
