After receiving training as a publisher in France, Fürstner worked as head clerk with [[Bote & Bock]] in [[Berlin]], before founding his own publishing house in the same city in 1868. In 1879 he approached Tchaikovsky with a request to take over the rights to publish the latter's works in Germany, although these plans were ultimately forestalled by [[Pyotr Jurgenson]]. Nevertheless, Fürstner did publish a significant number of piano works, romances and other small compositions by Tchaikovsky.
