Tolya! Modest and I have decided to set the Naples aside. Firstly, Kolya has already been doing nothing for the duration of the perpetual carnival, and if we went to Naples then no thought would be given to his studies; secondly, finances are an obstacle. Modest would prefer to go to Naples later, after my departure, and from there by steamer directly to Odessa at the end of April. I'll remain here for the time being, and will go to Petersburg around the 20th, but stopping at various places along the way, namely: Verona, Munich and Berlin. However, this is all still up in the air, i.e. I might very well go to Paris if Colonne lets me know that my symphony is being repeated. In any case, I'd very much like to spend March with you, and be at Kamenka by the start of April. I doubt that you'll be able to go, but if this happens then so much the better, and of course I'll be extremely happy, but I won't wait for you, and I'll leave around 1st April. Anyway, we'll discuss all this when we meet.

You won't believe how happy I am that Lev and the family are all assembled in Kamenka. I'm rather glad to think that Uka is now in his mother's care, and that in general the normal order of things has been restored. I'm very drawn to Kamenka and my cosy corner. Kondratyev, that greatest of boozers and debauchers, is going to Naples on Sunday, and of course he's pestering us to go too. But that's exactly why I didn't want to go there, because he was going, along withy all the commotion, drunkenness, boozing etc. But Clarens is where I'm terribly drawn to. Alas, I'm unable to visit there.

Our life is now quiet again. I'm writing out my piano concerto.

Spring is coming into its own. There's a bouquet of violets on my table with a delightful aroma; the window is open, and the sun is pouring streams of warmth and light into my room.

I kiss you hard.

Yours P. Tchaikovsky

I hug Volodya.
