Modinka! I terribly wanted to meet with you all in Petersburg at Easter, but I'm very much afraid that they'll start pestering me there, which I absolutely cannot take. Therefore I probably won't come for more than a day or two, incognito. It's time, high time, for me to settle into my home!

I'm leaving here in a week, on Thursday 14th, and will be in Moscow for the start of Easter. I'll be with you on Saturday, and we'll break the fast at Sasha's, and on the day after Easter I want to go to Frolovskoye (my new residence).

In any case, we'll see each other soon. Write to me in Moscow whether you think that I can safely spend a day in Petersburg??[1] Address it to Jurgenson.

P. Tchaikovsky

Everything here is very pleasant and contented. I've immersed myself in literature; writing the story of my journey [2].

  1. The planned journey to Saint Petersburg did not take place; on Wednesday 20 April/2 May the composer arrived in Moscow, and he left there three days later for his new home at Frolovskoye.
