20 августа Голубчик Модя, прости, что пишу на клочке. Сегодня я уезжаю за границу. В Петербурге останусь дня 2 у Лароша. Последние дни у меня были два брата Конюса; один возился с смычковыми указаниями в партитуре, другой (пианист) проигрывал моё переложение, которое оказалось никуда не годно. Кроме того, спешно выставлял знаки, стр[аницы] и т. д., — словом, так был занят, что не мог тебе ответить на последнее письмо, а теперь не имею времени. Касательно Коли, — то что бы ты ни писал, а я всё-таки считаю его большой свиньёй, но постараюсь по возможности не показывать ему моих чувств. Вопрос о вашем устройстве меня очень беспокоит. Всё это прекрасно, но деньги, деньги!!! У меня их, как нарочно, теперь немного, а ведь пахнет тысячами! Ну, мы обо всем переговорим, ибо я надеюсь, что около 2 сентября ты уже будешь в Петербурге. А пока до свиданья! Едва ли мне будет возможно поехать в Вербовку. Впрочем, увижу. Крепко обнимаю. П. Чайковский Ты пишешь: наши письма. Кроме как от тебя, я никаких писем не получал.
